A groundbreaking celebration of the Divine Feminine, the first-ever Risen Festival [9th April 2022] was a glorious success. The first of its kind created by the women of Percolate, Risen brought together the most joyous crowd of dancers, party people, performers and artists across 12 venues in London’s vibrant Hackney Wick. Covering the full spectrum of club culture, the Risen team were on a mission to champion female, trans and non-binary artists, DJs, crews, as well as creatives and event staff in the electronic scene. The result was an incredible, colourful and joyful event, amplifying emerging and established talent across the entire electronic sphere.
A truly magical atmosphere was present across all the participating stages, from the Foundation FM takeover in The Lot and Sisu Crew holding down the fort at the Lord Napier Pub, Bristol’s Mix Night’s at the controls within Crate Brewery, bustling with garage edits, bass, jungle and more, to the packed out leafy Yard Terrace – hands in the air from the get go with Tia Cousins, Raw Silk and Amaliah B2B Eliza Rose closing things out, and so much more. The epic after-party in Colour Factory with Copenhagen’s Mama Snake brought the whole event to a close on a pacey trance and techno-fused high.
Risen’s carefully curated diverse programme aimed to represent the expansive sounds of the electronic underground, with individuals, crews and collectives spinning the best in 2-step and garage gems, chunky breakbeats and jungle rippers, euphoric prog house and trance, uplifting disco, sumptuous deep house and electrifying techno. Takeovers and performances from the likes of Foundation FM, B.L.O.O.M., Rhythm Sister, Sisu, Team Woibey, and more, each and every DJ, artist and further crew showcased the incredible female, non-binary and trans talent in the club and live electronic scene.
Sure to become a not to be missed event in the London clubbing calendar, Risen is an exercise in love vibration. The dance floor is open to all, and a new energy starts here. Risen are aiming to drive forward a progressive club culture while celebrating the up & coming talent in the industry. Risen would like to thank everyone who has been a part of their first-ever festival – the collectives, artists, crews, teams, performers and most importantly, each and every dancer who celebrated with us on Saturday.
